Hepatitis A

The AAP recommends that all children 1 year (12 through 23 months) of age receive 2 doses of the vaccine. Children who are not vaccinated by 2 years of age can be vaccinated at later visits.

The Hepatitis A vaccine protects children from Hepatitis A virus, a viral illness that can damage the liver. Signs and symptoms may include fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite and jaundice. Hepatitis A can affect anyone. Two doses of the vaccine, 6 months apart, will provide long-term protection against this disease.
